Stories and messages
Beyond the early lessons from my grandma Lila, I am a self taught artist, scribbling stories and messages from my subconscious and beyond.
At the moment, it is an exciting time to be alive and these lands feel cursed. It is normal to give away our power, our wildness to fit into societal expectations. Because of this, I created a small prison in my mind. Burnt out from playing roles, I began drawing 3 years ago and started on a quest to find some peace of mind. Demons emerged on the page, reflecting my polluted inner state.
These demons encouraged me to keep going, and as more stories and worlds emerged, I was amazed at the richness of my imagination and the vastness that was still inside! It is my therapy and anyone can do it.
Pick up a pen, and start dragging it across the page. Notice what angles and motions feel good. Follow that good feeling. Scribble despite the inner noise. Fill in the negative space. The hard part is to let the shapes emerge over time by allowing the intercepting lines to keep overlapping and trusting the lines will reveal the forms that want to come forth. Shade around the shapes and see what comes out. You can add faces and characteristics.
Then the fun part: interpret those scribbles.
It is never about creating a perfect or beautiful piece. Watch the discomfort arise.
